Hanoi – Australia Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Conference 2025 Attracts Strong Interest from Australian Stakeholders

The “Hanoi – Australia Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Conference 2025” was recently held in Australia, drawing significant attention from investment, trade, and tourism promotion agencies, industry associations, and more than 120 businesses and investors across sectors such as construction, import-export, healthcare, tourism, education, technology, and innovation. These stakeholders are actively seeking substantive investment opportunities with Vietnam. The event marked a major highlight of the Hanoi delegation’s working visit to Australia.

As part of the delegation’s ongoing mission to Australia and New Zealand, from March 31 to April 3, 2025, a delegation from Hanoi, led by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan – Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Council – visited and worked in Australia.

On March 31, in Sydney, the delegation met with Mr. Rodney John Roberts – Deputy President of the New South Wales Legislative Council. Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan expressed Hanoi’s desire for the Deputy President and other state legislators to serve as a bridge to further strengthen the friendly relationship between Hanoi and New South Wales, including Sydney, while fostering business, investment, trade, tourism, and educational cooperation. He also called for continued support and favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in Australia.

Welcoming the Hanoi delegation, Mr. Rodney John Roberts affirmed his commitment to continuing efforts to deepen the amicable ties between New South Wales – including Sydney – and Hanoi.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged information on governmental structures and models of three-tier governance. They also shared experiences in formulating policies for economic development, urban management, environment, transportation, culture, society, and legislative oversight.

That same afternoon in Sydney, the Hanoi delegation attended the Hanoi – Australia Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Conference 2025, which brought together over 120 Australian enterprises and investors.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan emphasized Hanoi’s commitment to enhancing the local investment environment, with a target of achieving annual economic growth of 8% or higher – laying the groundwork for double-digit growth from 2026 to 2030.

He reaffirmed that Hanoi is a safe, attractive, and high-potential investment destination, offering favorable conditions for international businesses and investors, including those from Australia. The city government remains committed to facilitating effective and sustainable operations for all interested investors.

Vietnam’s Consul General in Sydney, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, commended Hanoi for successfully organizing the conference, noting that it was the largest event of its kind held by a Vietnamese locality in Sydney. The conference attracted promotional organizations, industry associations, and more than 120 Australian businesses across sectors including investment, construction, trade, healthcare, tourism, education, technology, and innovation – all seeking real and practical opportunities to collaborate with Vietnam.

The Consul General also stressed that there remains tremendous untapped potential in investment, trade, and tourism cooperation between Australia and Vietnam, particularly Hanoi. He expressed hope that following this conference, there will be more market exploration missions and collaborative promotion programs, particularly in areas such as investment, trade, tourism, education, technology, and digital transformation.

At the conference, the delegation also witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements between businesses from Hanoi and Australia.

After concluding activities in Sydney, the Hanoi delegation continued their mission in Canberra, meeting with the city’s leadership. Mr. Chris Steel, Minister for Planning and Sustainable Development of Canberra, welcomed the delegation. Both sides discussed solutions for economic growth, urban planning and management, wastewater and solid waste treatment, air quality improvement, and renewable energy development.

Regarding future cooperation between the two capitals, both sides agreed to foster more high-level exchanges and promote collaboration in investment, trade, tourism, education and training, culture, and to consider signing an official cooperation agreement between Hanoi and Canberra.

In Melbourne, the delegation visited the Parliament of Victoria and met with Ms. Maree Edwards, Speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Ms. Edwards provided an overview of the governance model of Australia, including the federal and state structures, as well as the role of cities. The two sides also exchanged valuable insights on legislative processes, policymaking, and oversight functions of elected bodies.

Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan proposed that the Parliament of Victoria act as a bridge to enhance friendship and cooperation between Victoria’s localities and Hanoi, while continuing to support the Vietnamese community residing, studying, and working in Melbourne and throughout the state.

As part of the mission, the delegation also met with the Vietnamese Business Association in Australia. Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan encouraged the Association to build on their achievements by promoting public awareness, encouraging Vietnamese-Australian businesses to comply with local laws and Vietnamese policies, and actively promoting Hanoi’s image abroad. He called for stronger business connectivity and investment promotion activities between Vietnamese and Australian enterprises, especially focusing on boosting partnerships with Hanoi.

Additionally, the delegation visited and worked with the staff of the Embassy of Vietnam in Australia and the Consulate General of Vietnam in Sydney. Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan expressed his appreciation and called on both diplomatic missions to continue promoting Hanoi’s image to international partners, strengthening ties between Hanoi and Australian localities, and supporting Hanoi’s efforts in investment, trade, and cooperation across various sectors.
