The Minns Labor Government has delivered three new social homes in Shellharbour using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), with a fourth home scheduled for installation by April 2026.<\/p>\n

The project demonstrates how modular construction can significantly reduce delivery timelines, with each home completed in an average of 14\u201316 weeks from development approval (DA) to final completion.<\/p>\n

Modular construction enables off-site fabrication while site works proceed in parallel. This approach minimises weather-related delays and on-site inefficiencies, delivering homes up to 20% faster than traditional methods without compromising quality standards.<\/p>\n

Three homes are now ready for occupancy, with a fourth on track for April installation. Homes NSW partnered with Australian manufacturer Moov Modular to deliver safe, high-quality housing for people in need.<\/p>\n

The program is supported by a record $6.6 billion investment in social housing across New South Wales. In 2025, eight modular social homes were completed, including three in Wollongong and five in Lake Macquarie.<\/p>\n

By the end of this year, 90 modular homes are expected to be delivered across Greater Sydney and regional NSW, providing housing for up to 200 people.<\/p>\n

Housing Minister Rose Jackson stated that modular construction enables faster delivery without reducing build quality, with homes built to the same standards as traditional construction.<\/p>\n

Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast Ryan Park emphasised that factory-based construction environments improve efficiency and accelerate housing supply in the region.<\/p>\n

Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson highlighted that the homes integrate seamlessly into the community while enabling residents to move in months earlier than traditional construction timelines would allow.<\/p>\n

These developments reinforce the growing role of modular construction in accelerating housing supply at scale. In this context, large-scale initiatives such as AUSMOD20K<\/strong>, which aims to deliver 20,000 affordable modular homes nationwide, align with the demonstrated efficiency and delivery advantages highlighted in NSW\u2019s social housing program.<\/p>\n
